Today in class, we talked about two different maps, the Mercator map, and the Peters map. When checked with a globe, the Mercator map exaggerates the size of the Americas, Europe, and Russia, while reducing the size of third world countries and continents, but not on purpose. Thus has made people, such as the Organization of Cartographers for Social Equality mad map to portray the world in its true proportion, creating the Peters map.
We also talked about how Cristopher Columbus was about the worst person ever created. The population of Native Americans before he invaded the Americas was from 40 to 80 million, and as he invaded, it decreased drastically. He first asked them to convert from whatever religion they were to Christians. But they kindly refused, telling Columbus that they had a religion, he had his, and that they were fine with it. After they refused, he gave them infected sheets with bad intentions. He had also raped many people and is thought of also raping his crew.
