11 October 2018 Class
Today at the beginning of class, one of the girls introduced her shadow, I think her name was Molly or something. I know for sure, though that she goes to Bel Air Middle School. We also reviewed the first three questions of the Key Issues (how do geographers describe where things are? why is each point on Earth unique? and, why are different places similar?) since they will be on the test. Mr. Schick also gave a little overview on the last question (why are some human actions not sustainable?) which he answered with: because they worsen global warming, and creating worse hurricanes due to the heat increase. Also driven by the heat increase, the melting of glaciers would increase the ocean level, making the chances of living a good and healthy life for teenagers today by 2030 worse, somewhere awful to live in.
After the overview, we all started the review with the three main maps we have been studying: the Mercator Map, the Galls-Peters map, and the Robinson map. After discussing a bit on the topic, we decided that the things binding all the maps together were latitude (Equator) and longitude (prime meridian/ Greenwich, England). And, we also decided that world maps shared those, along with the Equator line, the prime meridian, the poles, tropics, etcetera. They all help people navigate through the world and pinpointing locations.
When we were done reviewing, we decided the test would be on Friday.
