- A caravan is a large group of people traveling.
- Asylum comes back to the start of the Holocaust.
- After rejecting all 900 Jews who requested a safe place to get away from Germany, they returned to Europe and were then killed in Nazi camps.
- After the incidents of the Holocaust, the United Nations had a meeting in 1951 where they decided to not turn people again if they are in need.
- Asylum is a safe home for immigrants in difficult situations.
- Non reforma (not returning) - a French term that states not to return people who are in danger to the countries they come from.
- In the meeting, the countries decreed that they were not to discriminate against people and if it were known to them that people in a country are discriminated against, they were to aid them.
- PERSECUTION is the reason why people leave their countries.
- Have to prove you are being persecuted to enter a country.
- Some reasons why people are persecuted are:
- Race
- Nationality
- Religion
- Political beliefs
- Social groups
- Some others:
- Domestic violence (under Obama presidency after Guatemalan was horribly beaten by her husband in a machoism government)
- Gang violence and terrorism
- Gays
- In the Holocaust, the following groups of people were killed:
- Jews
- Gays
- Gypsies
- Mentally disabled
- Or just anyone who is non-productive or different-looking from Aryan looks.
- Some immigrants, such as those from Haiti, were classified as "economic" immigrants just to keep them away from the United States.
- From 2008-2016, there was a 1700% increase in the requests for asylum in the United States. And 50,000 people who crossed the Rio Grande illegally.
